Jim Tormey | President & CEO

Jim Tormey is the President and Chief Executive Officer of MidAmerica Administrative & Retirement Solutions. Jim joined MidAmerica in 2016 and initially concentrated on business development and account management. His focus quickly expanded to include Marketing and Participant Services, so that he could lead an effort to provide a streamlined, best-in-class customer experience. Jim was promoted to CEO in April 2018 and has led a cultural shift towards a participant-first mindset throughout MidAmerica. In his role as CEO, Jim continues to implement growth strategies; he is keenly focused on applying innovative technology to drive improvements and efficiencies in customer service, growing and diversifying MidAmerica’s client base, providing value-added products and services, and helping MidAmerica become the nation’s most trusted third-party administrator for public sector employee benefits. He loves leading a mission-driven company that takes care of those people who provide so much for our communities.

Jim brought his experience from investment banking at Morgan Stanley and leading growth efforts at a Silicon Valley start-up environment to MidAmerica. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University, where he was a four-year letter winner on the Heavyweight Crew Team, and a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Jim also holds Series 6 and 26 securities licenses.

 

Trent Teesdale | Senior VP of Business Development

As Senior Vice President of Business Development, Trent Teesdale provides critical insight on plan compliance, marketing strategies, product development and client relationships. With more than 15 years of employee benefits consulting and insurance expertise, Trent works closely with employers to help them create customized benefits solutions that fit the unique needs of the organization. Employers enhance their employee benefits offerings with his guidance, while realizing real cost savings. Trent’s individualized approach to benefits structuring and track record of success separates MidAmerica from its peers as a true benefits partner.

His analytical background and strive for innovation have been an invaluable asset to MidAmerica’s development during his over ten-year relationship with the company, having administered a variety of plans, including FSA, HRA, HSA, 457(b), 403(b) and 401(a) plans, over the decade. His strong interpersonal skills have facilitated new partner and client relationships, as well as maintained the longstanding history with MidAmerica’s existing partners.

Trent holds a Bachelor of Public Administration degree from Polk State College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, and has obtained his State of Florida Life, Health & Variable Annuity License, Series 6 and 63 securities licenses, GBA, RPA, and CEBS designations.

 

Amy Groff | VP of People & Culture

Amy Groff is the Vice President of People & Culture for MidAmerica. She is responsible for guiding and leading robust people services, policies, and programs. Through strategic human resource planning, Amy is responsible for defining a mindset, framework, strategies, and programs to ensure that MidAmerica attracts and develops right fit talent. She is tasked with the delivery of the company’s goals to drive results, at the same time building a PeopleFirst culture of engagement and performance. Prior to this role, she was President and Managing Partner of AKG Consulting, an independent (private) talent strategy and organizational development consulting firm serving a variety of large, mid-market and small companies as well as non-profit organizations. With over 20 years of experience – including 14 years with The Walt Disney Company – Amy has successfully designed and implemented people strategies such as learning programs, talent development and succession planning initiatives, performance management programs, leadership and talent assessments, HR technologies implementations, and organizational development transformations.

Amy holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Georgia and is actively involved in helping women through her volunteer work with PACE Center for Girls and Dress for Success.

 

Chris Fitzgerald | VP of Operations

Chris Fitzgerald joined MidAmerica in early 2018 as Vice President of Operations, responsible for leadership of day-to-day operational functions, including plan processing, call center, billing, and claims processing.

Prior to joining MidAmerica, Chris spent five years at Aspire Financial Services in roles encompassing Operations and Revenue Cycle Management, and nine years with Fidelity National Information Systems (FIS) in various finance and accounting roles. Chris’ experience is comprised of finance, accounting and operations within the Retirement Plan Processing and Banking Solutions industries, with extensive experience in financial analysis, contracts, project management, process reengineering, data migration, application integration, and management.

Chris earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Florida State University and his Master of Business Administration from Rollins Crummer Graduate School of Business.

 

Jon Croft | VP of IT

Jon Croft is the Vice President of IT at MidAmerica. In this role, Jon is responsible for planning the information technology future for the organization, as well as the maintenance of current systems.

Prior to joining MidAmerica, Jon served as Senior Director at Willis Towers Watson. As the executive leader for U.S. and India based teams, Jon managed the application development, DevOps, infrastructure, technology operations, data services, and client configuration management of custom and SaaS platforms supporting the core business. He was also responsible for the financial management of the technology capital and operating budgets, which included systems and software maintenance contracts and outsourcing agreements.

Jon has also served as Vice President of Application Development at Acclaris. During his time in this role, Jon restructured the global development team and modified the agile development lifecycle to increase application throughput by 30%.

Jon received both a Bachelors of Science and a Masters of Science from the University of Florida.

 

Steve Barber | VP of Business Development & Strategy

Steve Barber is MidAmerica’s Vice President of Business Development & Strategy, with broad responsibility for the company’s growth initiatives. He leads the Account Management and Marketing teams to provide unparalleled support to distribution partners and clients. In addition, Steve works closely with MidAmerica’s Senior Vice President of Business Development to drive new sales and partnership opportunities. Steve joined MidAmerica through Alpine Investors’ CEO-in-Training program. Prior to his civilian career, Steve flew F/A-18s for 11 years as a Naval Aviator. In addition to over 1500 hours of flight experience, his service in the U.S. Navy encompassed leadership roles across numerous functional areas including operations, maintenance, flight test, project planning, and training.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy, a Master of Science from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
